Here is the cleaning procedure:
1. Formation of pest: Take one tablespoon of sodium bicarbonate & water each one. Mingle these two items very well & form the baking soda pest.
If burnt greases appear on many cookware, make more pests using the same formula (a tablespoon of sodium bicarbonate & water).
2. Smear it on pans bottoms insides or outsides: After you finished the pest-making procedure, lightly smear on the grease spots that appear on the insides or at the outside bottom.

- During rubbing on those brown spots, you can’t apply too much force & must use soft nylon scrubbers. For non-stick pan users, the best practice will be once you apply sodium bicarbonate, barkeeper friends on it, leave it for 3 to 5 hours.
- You can use stainless steel wools or metallic scouring pads only for the stainless steel pans.
- Once you remove burnt spots from carbon steel & cast iron skillets, do light seasoning; it will protect your pans from getting rusted.
What Dissolves Burnt On Greases?
Burnt oils or greases have non-polar molecules. The soaps, baking soda & toothpaste dissolve these greases.
During deep frying, if you cook at a higher temperature (over the cooking oil smoke point), burnt oils stick on your pans.
If these oils don’t get polymerized into brown gunk & stick on your pan, just like what happens during cast iron seasoning, try warm water & soaps or tooth pests to wipe out these greases.
The water has a polar molecule, which is the opposite of the oils. That’s why they never mixed.

- Set the stovetop flame or temperature below the cooking oil smoke point. Every oil has a different smoke point temperature. Like, if you coo with canola oil, try to cook under 380F.
Because the canola oil smoke point is near 400F; so, the cooking oil will never transform into brown gunk’s.
- When you go for deep frying on a stainless steel pan, use multi-clad pans & gently increase the stove flame.
- If you go for seasoning of your noon-stick, or cast-iron skillets, apply a thin layer of oil coating on these pans. You can wipe out excessive oils using a paper towel.
